Úrsula Hilaria Celia de la Caridad Cruz Alfonso, known as Celia Cruz, is a Cuban singer and one of the most famous Latin artists of the 20th century. Cruz rose to fame in Cuba in the 1950s as a singer. Guarachas singer, nicknamed "La Guarachera de Cuba". In the decades that followed, she was known internationally as the "Queen of Salsa" or "Queen of Latin Music" for her contributions to Latin music in the United States. She began her career in her native Cuba, recognized as the singer of the famous group Sonora Matancera, a fifteen-year musical association. Cruz has mastered many Afro-Cuban musical styles including guaracha, rumba, afro, son and bolero, recording several singles of these styles for Seeco Records. In 1960, after the Cuban revolution nationalized the music industry, Cruz left his homeland, becoming one of the symbols and spokesperson for the Cuban community in exile.

The Queen of Salsa was a great Cuban vocalist who recorded 37 studio albums throughout the course of her career. Several of her songs have been classified as Cultural Heritage of Latin America.
